about me

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas in late September 1979. As a child, I refused to wear shoes and lived in my swimsuit and pajamas. We camped, went to the beach, and took nature walks as a family. I was always collecting feathers and leaves, rocks and other natural treasures, some even living. Nature has always fascinated me..

As soon as I was able I began traveling the world, exploring everywhere from the mountains of western Colorado to the eastern coast of Australia. It was during that time I began working on farms in exchange for room and board but most importantly-the invaluable knowledge of how to grow things.

Eventually, I found myself on the beautiful island of Maui, where I was introduced to flowering ornamentals and landscapes. Shaping and designing with such colors and textures sparked a fire in me. when I FINALLY returned home to Houston nearly 20 years later I planted the first garden of my own, and that was all it took. So began my business of arranging and caring for plants, my true passions in life.

What is personal Gardening?

I often get asked..what is a personal gardener?

I fell in love with nature long ago. My love runs deep, and nothing pleases me more than planting a beautiful garden full of whimsey that makes you feel as though you have entered a fairy tale. I tend my gardens with the utmost care and adoration. It truly is my art. The flowers are my paint, my trowel the brush. Be it a cut flower garden for the aspiring florist, herb and veggie boxes for culinary delights, or a pollinator landscape, bursting with flower, foliage and color; I put my personal touch, what we call TLC in my family, into each project.

Personal gardening is specific to plant care and garden design. Seasonal planting, native landscapes and cottage style gardens are my specialty. Having a landscape that changes through the year and always having something blooming is one of the luxuries of living in Zone 9. I take full advantage of our long growing seasons and mild winters. Growing native plants in your landscape also helps out our pollinators and migratory butterflies. So it’s not just pretty, it has function as well. Learning about and growing plants is one of the most rewarding experiences. Nothing makes me happier than sharing my knowledge. The beauty of nature is that it teaches you something every day. Sunflowers are a beautiful and stunning way to line your fence, for cut flowers or make a dramatic accent piece in your garden. They love water and some grow to be 8-12 ft tall.

Ask yourself what is really important, and then have the wisdom and courage to build your life around your answer..

To those who love a Garden,
The awe of Growing Things,
A misty haze at dawn,
At night the whir of wings-
to those who love the fragrance
That drifts across the dew,
The creeping, gentle coolness
That rests one through and through-
To those who sense the mystery
Of Death that brings forth Life-
Who know the love of Gardens
Can calm and still all strife.
